Iowa Hawkeyes Look to Extend Dominance Over Wisconsin in Heartland Trophy Matchup

The Iowa Hawkeyes are riding high as they prepare to face off against the Wisconsin Badgers in the Heartland Trophy matchup on Saturday. Iowa has won two straight and three of the last four meetings against Wisconsin, with the last two victories coming at Kinnick Stadium. The Hawkeyes are also on the verge of a milestone victory, as their next win will be the 700th in program history, making them the 35th school to reach this achievement.

Iowa’s recent success can be attributed to their strong performance in November, as they have won 18 of their last 19 games in the month. The team has also shown dominance in complementary football, scoring on offense, defense, and special teams in their recent victory over Northwestern.

Key players to watch for Iowa include senior Kaden Wetjen, who had an 85-yard punt return for a touchdown in the last game, and running back Kaleb Johnson, who has recorded six 100-yard games this season. The defense has been solid, allowing just 163 yards of total offense against Northwestern and forcing 15 turnovers in eight games.

Head coach Kirk Ferentz, with 201 career victories, is looking to add another win to his impressive resume. Iowa’s rushing attack has been strong, with Johnson leading the nation in rushing yards and touchdowns.

The historic rivalry between Iowa and Wisconsin dates back to 1894, with Wisconsin leading the series 49-46-2. Iowa has won three of the last four meetings, and the Heartland Trophy, inaugurated in 2004, currently resides in Iowa City after their victory in 2022. Fans can expect an exciting matchup as Iowa looks to extend their dominance over Wisconsin and secure their spot in program history with the 700th win.
