Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez delivered a passionate speech condemning Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant remarks, likening them to the words of Adolf Hitler. She sought to rally progressive support for Kamala Harris at a rally in Madison, Wisconsin, alongside Bernie Sanders. Ocasio-Cortez emphasized the importance of unity in rejecting racist rhetoric and highlighted the fascist ideology behind Trump’s movement.
The event in Madison, a Democratic stronghold, aimed to mobilize voters to deliver the swing state to Harris in the upcoming election. Gaby Schmidt, a regional organizing director, stressed the narrow margins of victory in Wisconsin and urged attendees to encourage others to vote for Harris.
Progressive congressman Mark Pocan underscored Trump’s authoritarian tendencies and positioned Harris as receptive to progressive policies. Bernie Sanders also condemned Trump’s lies and attacks on American democracy, focusing on issues like healthcare, labor rights, and wealth inequality. He called for bold measures to address economic disparities and advocated for cancelling medical debt in the US.
Sanders criticized Trump for manipulating legitimate anger over corporate greed into targeting minority communities, labeling it as demagoguery. He emphasized the importance of uniting Americans around a common agenda that addresses the needs of the working class. The rally aimed to energize progressive voters in Wisconsin and build momentum for the Harris campaign leading up to the election.
