“Terrifier 3,” a low-budget slasher film about a demonic clown, took the top spot at the box office with an opening weekend of $18.3 million. In contrast, “Joker: Folie á Deux” saw an 82% decline in ticket sales, dropping to third place with $7.055 million. Another new release, “Piece By Piece,” a documentary about Pharrell Williams using Lego animation, opened in sixth place with $3.8 million. The film received promising grades from CinemaScore and Rotten Tomatoes, indicating potential success in ancillary markets. “Saturday Night,” a film about the inaugural broadcast of “Saturday Night Live,” landed at No. 7 with $3.4 million. Meanwhile, “The Apprentice,” a biographical drama about a young Donald Trump, struggled in 11th place with $1.58 million.
In other box office news, “The Wild Robot” took second place with $13.45 million in its third weekend. “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” and “Transformers One” rounded out the top five. Overall, year-to-date revenues are down compared to previous years. The box office landscape in 2024 has been marked by fluctuations and challenges for theaters.
