Former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney appeared on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” to issue dire warnings about a potential future Trump administration. She expressed concern that Donald Trump believes he will be immune from any wrongdoing once in office, and that he will not respect the rulings of the courts. Cheney also referenced Gen. Mark Milley’s characterization of Trump as a fascist, which she did not disagree with.
Cheney criticized Trump’s actions on Jan. 6, 2021, and warned that another Trump administration would bring erratic and chaotic foreign policies. She noted that both Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, support isolationist policies. Cheney emphasized the importance of a strong internationalist foreign policy and support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.
Despite her previous criticism of VP Kamala Harris as a “radical liberal,” Cheney now supports her, citing her dedication to public service and contrasting her with the potential chaos of a Trump administration. She also criticized House Speaker Mike Johnson for claiming that there was a peaceful transfer of power in 2020, citing the Jan. 6 riot as evidence to the contrary. Cheney expressed concern about Johnson’s loyalty to Trump and urged that Republicans not be in the House majority in 2025 to avoid potential election challenges.
