Nation Station, a communal kitchen in Beirut’s Geitawi neighbourhood, is bustling with volunteers preparing meals for people displaced by Israeli bombardment. As more than one million people are forced to flee their homes in Lebanon, initiatives like Nation Station are stepping up to provide aid where the government and international organizations fall short.
Started after the August 4th explosion in 2020, Nation Station has been cooking meals for those in need, making 700 portions daily for the displaced. In addition to serving meals, other initiatives led by social media influencers, like Sandid, Dika, and Fawaz, are mobilizing volunteers to provide essential items to those affected by the crisis.
Despite the challenges of fundraising and supply shortages in Lebanon’s collapsing banking system, these grassroots efforts are making a difference. Students, volunteers, and influencers are working tirelessly to support the thousands of displaced people in the country.
However, as the number of displaced continues to rise, the need for aid also grows. People from different regions of Lebanon are coming together to help, showing solidarity in the face of a crisis. With volunteers like Jaafar dedicating hours to support those in need, the spirit of community and compassion shines through in the midst of adversity.
