Former President Donald Trump, in a post on his Truth Social platform, threatened to direct the Justice Department to pursue criminal charges against Google if he is re-elected, claiming the company unfairly showcases negative news about him while favoring positive coverage of his potential 2024 election opponent, Kamala Harris. Trump accused Google of illegally interfering in elections and vowed to take action if the Justice Department does not.
Google has denied manipulating search results for any political party and said that both Trump and Harris’s campaign websites always appear at the top of relevant search queries. However, conservatives have long raised concerns about Google favoring Democrats in search results.
This is not the first time Trump has threatened to prosecute his supposed opponents. Earlier this month, he also threatened to pursue criminal charges against individuals he believes engaged in election fraud against him if he wins the 2024 election. He has also called for the prosecution of former Speaker Nancy Pelosi for not preventing the January 6 Capitol attack and accused her and her husband of wrongdoing related to Visa stock sales.
Trump’s latest attack on Google is part of a pattern of inflammatory rhetoric and threats aimed at his political adversaries. It remains to be seen how this latest threat will play out as the election season heats up.
