Tiger Woods’ new logo for his Sun Day Red golf apparel line is facing a trademark dispute with Tigeraire, a company that makes cooling products for athletes. Tigeraire has filed a notice of opposition with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, alleging that Woods and TaylorMade have infringed upon its design. TaylorMade Golf, the company behind Sun Day Red, has expressed confidence in the validity of their trademarks. Sun Day Red was launched in May as a tribute to Woods’ signature Sunday red apparel and his 15 major wins. The opposition proceeding will halt the trademark application, but is unlikely to affect production of the line. It is expected that the case will settle before going to trial. The dispute has given Tigeraire an opportunity to negotiate with Woods and TaylorMade to reach a resolution. Woods’ spokesperson declined to comment on the matter, and the Sun Day Red team will have 40 days to file an answer to the notice. The trademark attorney, Josh Gerben, believes that the case will likely be resolved through negotiation rather than a trial, as Woods and TaylorMade will need to win the case in order to register the trademark.
