Comedian Brittany Furlan’s small dog Neena was snatched by a coyote near the pool of her Los Angeles home, but Furlan was able to rescue her by climbing up a wall and retrieving her from the coyote’s mouth. Furlan and her husband, rocker Tommy Lee, were shocked by the incident, which was captured on a Ring surveillance camera. Furlan expressed relief that Neena’s extra weight prevented the coyote from carrying her over the wall. The incident occurred in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, where coyote sightings are not uncommon.
Furlan stressed the importance of pet safety, urging pet owners not to leave small pets unsupervised outside and to bring them indoors at night to prevent coyote attacks. Coyotes are known to be attracted to trash and pet food. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife advises caution around coyotes, which are estimated to number between 250,000 and 750,000 in the state. Although they have adapted to living alongside humans, they can pose a threat to small pets.
Furlan’s message serves as a reminder to pet owners to stay vigilant and take precautions to protect their pets from potential dangers like coyote attacks. The incident underscores the importance of being aware of wildlife threats, particularly in areas where coyote encounters are common.
