Warren Jones Crazybull, a 64-year-old man from Sandpoint, Idaho, has been charged with threatening to kill former President Donald Trump in phone calls made to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. Crazybull made at least nine threatening calls to Trump’s home on July 31, with statements such as “I am coming down to Bedminster tomorrow. I am going to kill him personally.” Following the calls, Crazybull was arrested and indicted on one count of making threats against a former president. A trial is scheduled for October 28.
Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung blamed Vice President Kamala Harris and Democrats for the threats, calling on them to apologize for their “hateful rhetoric” that he claimed incited violence. In response, Harris condemned political violence and called for everyone to work together to ensure such incidents do not lead to more violence.
The Secret Service confirmed Crazybull’s identity through phone records and voice comparisons, locating him in Montana using T-Mobile phone data. In an interview with the Secret Service, Crazybull appeared confused and paranoid but denied trying to kill Trump, stating that he would not let Trump become president again. These threatening calls came in the aftermath of an attempted assassination of Trump in Pennsylvania and a separate incident at Trump’s golf club in Florida, in which a man described his actions as an “assassination attempt” in a letter. Security for Trump has been increased following these recent events.
