Vance’s belief is that allegations against Mark Robinson may not reflect truth.

Senator JD Vance of Ohio reacted to the allegations against Mark Robinson, a Republican candidate for governor in North Carolina, by saying that allegations are not necessarily reality. Robinson allegedly made inflammatory comments on a porn website years ago, including referring to himself as a “black Nazi” and expressing support for slavery. Despite some members of his own party expressing concern, Robinson has denied the allegations and plans to stay in the race.

Vance stated that it is ultimately up to Robinson and the voters of North Carolina to decide his fate. He mentioned that his campaign does not have plans to campaign with Robinson, who is currently the lieutenant governor of North Carolina. The Republican Party of North Carolina issued a statement reiterating Robinson’s denial of the allegations.

Regarding President Trump’s endorsement of Robinson, there are no plans for him to formally withdraw it, as Trump has previously praised Robinson as “Martin Luther King on steroids.” North Carolina is considered a crucial state for Republicans to win in order to secure the White House, with polling indicating a tight race between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. In the gubernatorial contest, Robinson is polling behind his Democratic opponent, North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein.

NBC News reporters Lauren Mayk and Megan Lebowitz covered the story, with Alec Hernández contributing. Mayk hosts the Battleground Politics podcast and reports on politics throughout the Philadelphia region.
